Part II
- By which painter have you been influenced? Do you have an idol?
M.E: Well, I think I've neither been influenced by a certain painter, nor do I have an idol. But there are two stiles of famous painters, which impressed me in different ways.
Those painting figuratively, using clear and bright colours, as e.g. August Macke, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Franz Marc, did, and others, who are well-known for there "delicate" themes, like Egon Schiele, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Salvador Dalí.
Whereas I must admit, that only Dalí's "naked bodies/man" come very close to my personal idea of aesthetics, also because they are beyond reality (much uglier, usually).
- What's inspiring you to paint nudes?
M.E: The human anatomy is per se attractive! The human body is as vulnerable as powerful.
Thus my paintings are not more and not less than just the expression of my sense of aesthetics (as I see it). Of course my pictures also often express my sentiments by the choice of motive and colour.
Last but not least there is also always the challenge for me to find out whether I'd be capable to paint a certain theme - purely technically.
- Why do you use these colours to present a human body?
M.E: The colours red/orange and green are earth tones thus emanating warmth.
Furthermore is "red" the colour of love and passion, whereas blue tones always implicate coldness.
I always choose the colours while painting, depending on my mood in that moment.
